Watch the Throne Tour

The Watch the Throne Tour had three shows at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. I attended the middle show on Monday December 12th show. When I heard that Jay-Z and Kanye West where collabrating on a album of the same title as the tour I was hoping they would tour in support of that album. I had seen Jay-Z at Coachella in 2010 and Kanye the following year at Coachella 2011. They are in the top 10 of my favorite rappers of all time, so I was very excited to see this show. They performed all the tracks on the Watch the Throne album, but Jay-Z and Kanye did material from their personal albums mixed into the show. There was a main stage and a second stage that was smaller. Both stages had a platform that raised about 20 feet in the air, and the platforms had LED screens attached to them to project videos of animals. The show started around 9:30pm and did not stop until after midnight. The only thing that I did not like was that Jay-Z and Kanye perfrormed the same song 9 times. There was a running record on the tour that the first city they performed the song one time, the second city two times, so when they came to Los Angeles the record was 8 times. They broke that record by performing it 9 times. I am sure it is some kind of political statement or a statement on our current society and/or culture. The was one of the best Hip Hop shows I have ever attended, below are pictures from the show.

Slayer

Slayer played the last show on the Orange stage at the FFF Fest. They played almost 90 minutes straight and their light show was one of the best that weekend. Two nights before Glen Stefani was complaining about everything and caused her set to be cut short. Slayer definitely did not want to repeat and came out and played a complete set.

Davilla 666

This was the last show on the tour in support of Tan Bajo. I was able to see them perform earlier in the tour, you can read my review here. It was brought up in conversation with my colleagues that the band looked rocked out, but their show was definitely great. There was a lot of energy not only from the band, but also in the audience. With audience members yelling at the band for song requests and other concerns.

Murder City Devils at the FFF Fest

Murder City Devils played Friday night. This was one of the bands that I wanted to see and they did not disappoint. It was brought up in conversation with colleagues that Murder City Devils have written two new songs in 10 years, so this set was similar to recent shows. Their Twitter account did announce that there is a new 7" coming out soon. Looking forward to new material.
